(Pentameter Quatrains rhyming aabc)
There she is standing six feet in rich loam
I brought her in from her ancestral home
Manila palm from Arecaceae
A tower of strength among Bimshire lands.
I love it here in the tropical sky
And truly, I have many reasons why
With my sturdy stance I stand in gardens
Around great houses, malls and chattel homes.
In Judy's garden near Pat's wired fence
My crown in the torrid sky is immense
On my ace-trunk, stocky and stiffly arched
I stand all day, all year with bright green fronds.
In her front garden many things I see
Trees, shrubs and five fingers pointing at me
A Bajan cherry tree fully loaded
Ruckus blackbirds feast on her boughs all year.
My feathered friends think I'm mean with their feed
But come this Yule they eat my blooms with greed
I am yummy as sorrel and great cake
And dress any pot, place on any spot.
Oval fruits in red attire hang down
All over the country they bring renown
Just like the Christmas tree with pretty balls
That is why they call me their Christmas palm.
