Indian corn
Link
Indian corn! With stacks of cobs
Remove your shaft and hair
To roast them well the Bajan way
You scrape the kernels’ ear.
So corny western stories told
About those new found lands
That startled Columbus’s men
Who followed his commands!
But there is more than meets the eye
In yonder fields of corn
A constant change of leaves and stalk
From seedlings, maize is born.
Indian corn! With stacks of cobs
Remove your shaft and hair
To roast them well the Bajan way
You scrape the kernels’ ear.
Beneath the planter’s moon with sacks
Of buried seeds that sprout
Manipulated grains increase
And bloom with sunshine clout.
The silken threads on corns on husk
Are dangling down in line
To catch the falling pollen grains
On fertile rows so fine.
Indian corn! With stacks of cobs
Remove your shaft and hair
To roast them well the Bajan way
You scrape the kernels’ ear.
Cornstalk! You stand with joints so high
Your kids with you abide
Adam’s tassel has curls on top
That drapes the cob his bride.
Around the globe you have a home
Your output is profound
With hybrids from many a kind
Your inter cross we found.
Indian corn! With stacks of cobs
Remove your shaft and hair
To roast them well the Bajan way
You scrape the kernels’ ear.
Marvin takes golden corn from cob
Splashes on sweet butter
He grills, or pops, or boils with thyme
Then dabs on, white pepper!
He eats the cob the proper way
By holding ends real tight
Each corn from ear he bites and chews
Crisscrossing rows in sight!
Indian corn! With stacks of cobs
Remove your shaft and hair
To roast them well the Bajan way
You scrape the kernels’ ear.

Kia ora Paterika,
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot going on here as I read this again after watching and listening to you read the words that I did not catch the first times. This is what I love about poetry. Kia ora.
Noho ora mai ra,
Robb
You are able to write great poetry about anything. I so love the video's. My children love to eat corn on the cob. We usaually boil it and than put butter on it.
